Things to Consider When Purchasing Pallet Racks

If you’re looking to buy more pallet racks for your warehouse or to replace some of your old, worn ones, there are a few things you have to consider. Your warehouse pallet racks are one of the most important parts of your warehouse, and you want to make certain you’re getting the right product because, ideally, these racks are going to last you for years. Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking at pallet racks.

What Size Pallet Racks do you Need?

This is the first and probably most important thing to take into consideration. You want to make certain you purchase pallet racks that will fit the space you have. However, you may have a few different options regarding the length of the racks. You may be able to purchase one large, long rack for an area or two shorter racks.

Which is the better option for you? That may depend on other factors. However, you should make certain all of the measurements work for your warehouse. Don’t forget to measure the height and make sure any pallet rack you purchase will fit through your warehouse doors and, if you have to haul the racks back to your warehouse, make sure they’ll fit on your truck.

Remember to keep width into consideration, too. While you may be tempted to purchase pallet racks that are a bit wider than what you had, that may make your aisles too narrow. The extra width of a single rack has to be doubled since you’ll have racks on the other side of the aisle, too.

What Kind of Weight Limit Do the Racks Have?

Some pallet racks are rated for extra heavy pallets, while some are not. Make certain you purchase pallet racks that will be able to hold all of the products you regularly store without buckling under the extreme weight. Otherwise, you may find yourself shopping for another set of replacement pallets sooner than you’d like.

New or Used?

Some people prefer to purchase brand new pallet racks for their warehouse because they know the racks will be in great condition. These new racks will never have been under any kind of heavy load, and they won’t be worn or potentially damaged in any way. On the other hand, used pallet racks are almost always cheaper.

Even though they have been used, these racks should have been inspected, and they shouldn’t be available for purchase if any kind of issue was found. If you’re buying from a reputable dealer, like Murray Material Handling, you should be able to purchase used pallet racks with no fear of buying damaged goods.

What is your Budget?

Buying new or used is definitely going to be impacted by your budget, but that’s not the only thing that you have to take into account.
